Pool Automation Won't Connect to Wi-Fi or App: Fix Guide

Your ScreenLogic, OmniLogic, or iAquaLink app says "no connection" — the pad controller has lost its link to your router or the vendor cloud. Good news: this is the one pool symptom that's mostly homeowner-fixable. Here's every cause, ranked, from the Pinellas company licensed for the electrical side when it isn't.

1. 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz Band Confusion — the #1 Cause

Most pool controllers are 2.4 GHz-only. Modern mesh routers broadcast one network name for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and steer devices automatically — and that steering routinely breaks pool automation. If your connection died around the time you upgraded to a mesh system, this is almost certainly it.

  • In your router's app, create (or enable) a dedicated 2.4 GHz-only network name.
  • Re-run the pool app's pairing flow and join the controller to that 2.4 GHz network.
If a dedicated 2.4 GHz network still won't pair: continue down the list, or stop here and call.

2. Router Changed or Replaced

New router, new network name or password — and nobody re-introduced the pool controller. It sits at the pad calling for a network that no longer exists. This is the second most common cause and the fastest fix.

  • Power-cycle both the automation system (at its breaker) and the router.
  • Re-run the app's pairing/setup flow and enter the current network name and password.
If pairing repeatedly fails on correct credentials: this points at hardware — stop here.

3. Weak Signal at the Equipment Pad

Equipment pads live at the side of the house, behind stucco, block walls, and metal cabinets — all of which eat Wi-Fi. A connection that drops every afternoon or in bad weather is usually marginal signal, not failing gear.

  • Stand at the pad with your phone on the same 2.4 GHz network — your phone's signal bars are a rough proxy for what the controller sees.
  • If it's weak, move the router closer or add a mesh node/extender on the pad side of the house.
If signal is strong at the pad and it still drops: the problem is at the controller — stop here.

4. Corroded or Loose Antenna Connection

The controller's antenna and its cable connection live outdoors year-round, and Pinellas County salt air corrodes those connections faster than the equipment ages anywhere else. Symptom: signal that has slowly degraded over months regardless of router changes.

  • On iAquaLink systems: unplug the external antenna module for 30 seconds and reconnect it — that's the safe, plug-level reset.
  • Anything screwed to or inside the panel: leave it alone.
If the antenna connection itself looks corroded: opening the panel is an electrical repair — stop here.

5. Stale Firmware or App-Firmware Mismatch

Vendors update their apps constantly; controllers in the field update rarely. When the app gets ahead of the firmware, connections get flaky or fail outright — Pentair's own ScreenLogic troubleshooting guide dedicates real estate to exactly this.

  • Update the app first, then update the controller firmware if the interface offers it.
  • ScreenLogic: paperclip-reset the Protocol Adapter — press the reset button 3 times within 5 seconds to reset DHCP.
If a firmware update fails or bricks the connection: stop here — panel-level recovery is a service visit.

6. Vendor Cloud Outage

Sometimes it isn't you. iAquaLink, OmniLogic, and Pentair Home all route through vendor cloud services, and when those go down, every user's app shows "offline" while the equipment itself keeps running its schedules at the pad.

  • Check whether the local display at the pad still works normally — if it does and only the app is dead, wait an hour before touching anything.
If the outage never ends for you while neighbors' apps work: it's your hardware — stop here.

7. Failed Comm Module

Last on the list because it's the least common: the Wi-Fi/communication module itself has failed — often after a lightning storm, the routine hazard for every powered device at a Pinellas equipment pad. Everything else checks out, and the controller simply can't see any network.

  • One final power-cycle of the controller and router together. That's the homeowner's last move.
