Omni alarms appear as plain-text messages on the touchscreen (the MSP), and the screen color matters: yellow means warning, red means critical fault. Comm Loss — A Device Dropped Off the Bus
Messages like "MPP – Comm Loss" or a VS pump comm loss mean the Main Panel Processor lost communication with a component — a variable-speed pump on the Low-Speed Bus, a wall remote on the High-Speed Bus, a smart relay. Causes range from loose or corroded comm wiring (salt air near the coast is not kind to terminals) to a failed device or board fault.
Try this first:
- Power-cycle the whole system at its breaker once — many comm losses clear on a clean reboot.
- Write down which device the alarm names. That one detail makes the service call faster and cheaper.
T-CELL Cable / Sensor Open — Chlorinator Cell Not Seen
The chlorinator cell cord reads open: either the cable is cut or the cell simply isn't plugged in. The cell-end plug is low-voltage and accessible, so there's one genuinely safe check.
Try this first:
- Visually confirm the cell cord is plugged in snugly at the cell end and the cable is undamaged along its run.
Low Salt / High Salt / Cell Alarms
Omni systems drive the same Hayward TurboCell as a standalone AquaRite, so the physics — and the homeowner guidance — are identical: target 2,700–3,400 ppm salt, ideally 3,200.
Try this first:
- Independently test the salt (strips or a pool store) before adding any — an old or scaled cell reads low.
- Clean the cell per Hayward's instructions if the plates show scale.

Flow Alarm — Flow Switch Not Closing
The flow switch isn't closing while equipment (especially the chlorinator) should be running. The system suspends chlorination and, with flow monitoring enabled, may shut the pump down after 15–20 minutes.
Try this first:
- Confirm the pump is running and primed.
- Clean or backwash the filter.
- Empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
- Check that all valves are open and not diverted.

Pool Automation SystemsTemperature Sensor Faults — Open, Short, or Impossible Readings
A water or air thermistor reading open, shorted, or out of range shows up as wrong displayed temperatures — or a heater that refuses to run because the system doesn't trust its own thermometer. The sensor wiring terminates inside the panel, so there are no homeowner steps beyond noticing the symptom.
Blank Touchscreen / Dead Panel
No display usually means no 120 VAC reaching the main board — a tripped breaker or GFCI — or a failed power supply inside the panel.
Try this first:
- Check the breaker feeding the automation panel.
- Check any GFCI on that circuit. Stop there.
Valve Actuator Not Rotating
An actuator that won't turn its valve can be a comm or wiring fault, a power-supply problem, a failed actuator motor, or a physically jammed valve. Actuator wiring lives in the panel, so there's nothing safe to open.
Try this first:
- Note which valve isn't moving (pool/spa suction? return? water feature?) so the tech arrives knowing the target.
Wi-Fi / App Won't Connect — "System Offline"
The single most common Omni complaint — and usually the least serious. Equipment pads sit at the far edge of home Wi-Fi coverage, and a changed router password, weak signal, outdated firmware, or a Hayward cloud outage will all show up as "system offline" in the app.
Try this first:
- Reboot your home router.
- Reboot the Omni at its breaker.
- Check the system status on the local touchscreen: if the touchscreen works but the app doesn't, the problem is network or cloud — not the panel's wiring.
- If you changed your router's name or password, re-run network setup from the touchscreen.
- Move a Wi-Fi extender or mesh node closer to the equipment pad.
- Check for firmware updates from the MSP.
