Jandy AquaLink & iAquaLink Troubleshooting Guide

AquaLink doesn't use numeric fault codes — it shows text states and connectivity failures. This guide covers the common ones, the router and power-cycle steps that are safe to try, and where the dead-front panel makes it a licensed job. We're the Pinellas County company licensed for the electrical side of these repairs (EC13011994, CPC1459998).

"Waiting for Connection" — the app can't reach your system

The iAquaLink web device can't reach your router or the Jandy cloud. Common causes: Wi-Fi credential or band issues — older iAquaLink antennas are 2.4 GHz-only, and early units need the router in 802.11b/mixed mode, which modern mesh systems that force band steering routinely break — plus weak signal or a router/ISP change.

Try this first:

  • Power-cycle your router, and the AquaLink at its breaker.
  • Check signal strength: on a OneTouch panel, Menu → Help → Diagnostics shows bars out of 5.
  • Move the router closer or add an extender if signal is weak.
  • Re-run the Wi-Fi setup in the iAquaLink app; on mesh systems, make sure a 2.4 GHz network is available.
If that doesn't clear it: antenna replacement or hardwiring the junction box — this is an electrical repair. Stop here.

"No Operations Allowed Here" — the system is locked in Service mode

This message means remote control is intentionally locked out: the power center is in Service or Timeout mode, usually because someone flipped the switch during maintenance and forgot.

Try this first:

  • At the power center door panel, set the Service/Timeout/Auto switch back to AUTO.
If it won't leave Service mode: board diagnosis inside the power center — this is an electrical repair. Stop here.

System offline in the app, but local control works

The link between the antenna and the board — or the antenna and the internet — is down. Per field reports, the classic culprit is the 4-wire RS-485 connector: it must be wired red/black/yellow/green and landed on the RS-485 header, not the "RS4/RS8 ONLY" header, a documented installation mistake. A failed antenna or missing 12 V DC supply to it (often just corrosion at that connector) looks identical.

Try this first:

  • Full power-cycle at the breaker, plus a router reboot.
If that doesn't clear it: RS-485 wiring lives behind the power center's dead-front — this is an electrical repair. Stop here.

Aux equipment won't respond / relay doesn't click

When a light, blower or actuator won't respond, the failure is a relay, an actuator, a board output — or simply a tripped breaker or GFCI on that piece of equipment's own circuit.

Try this first:

  • Check the equipment's own breaker and GFCI (press reset).
  • Toggle the circuit and listen for the relay click at the power center.
If that doesn't clear it: relay or board replacement and actuator wiring — this is an electrical repair. Stop here.

Frozen or garbled display / random behavior

A frozen panel, scrambled characters or circuits switching on their own point to board or communication corruption — commonly surge damage after lightning, which Tampa Bay sees more of than almost anywhere in the country. Corroded connections and an aging board produce the same symptoms.

Try this first:

  • One full power-cycle at the breaker.
If that doesn't clear it: board-level repair — this is an electrical repair. Stop here — and ask us about surge protection for the equipment pad.

Temperature sensors reading wrong (air, water or solar)

An air, water or solar temperature that's obviously wrong usually means the 10k sensor or its wiring has failed open or shorted.

Try this first:

  • Compare the display against a real thermometer to confirm it's the sensor, not the water.
If it's really the sensor: the swap happens at the board terminals inside the power center — this is an electrical repair. Stop here.

Why Homeowners Across Pinellas Call Us for Jandy Automation

  • Everything past the router is behind a dead-front (EC13011994): RS-485 comm wiring, relays, 12 V antenna supply and board swaps all live inside an energized power center — licensed electrical work we do in-house.
  • Lightning capital of the country: Surge-damaged AquaLink boards are one of our most common Tampa Bay calls. We repair the board and can add pad-level surge protection so it doesn't happen twice.
  • Automation touches everything (CPC1459998): Board revisions matter for features like variable-speed pump integration, and a comm fault can masquerade as a pump or heater problem. As pool and electrical contractors we diagnose the whole pad, not one box.
